What do I need to bring with me

he basic equipment needed for a mountain trip during summer time:

  • 0-60 litre backpack, chosen according to the tour type.
  • Mountain boots covering your ankles; 2 additional pairs of socks.
  • Rain wear, jacket and pants. I recommend you to have the jacket and pants, so you will be protected from rain and windy weather. A rain poncho will do too, but only if there are no windy conditions outside.
  • Cap, gloves, sunglasses and sunscreen. I strongly advise you to carry a cap and gloves with you – even during the summer season – because it could be quite cold at altitudes over 1700 m.
  • Warm clothes. One or two Polartec/Fleece sweaters.

Itineraries

Day 1

We leave from Brasov at 8:00 am and we drive about 7 hours to the Semenic – Cheile Carasului National Park where we stay 4 nights to a 2* guesthouse/hotel, in twin rooms, with private facilities. Welcome dinner! Presentation of the trip at a glass of beer and/or wine! Yes, I know, the night is young…but we try to go to sleep at a “normal” time!

Day 2

Breakfast. Short transfer (about 30 minutes) to Anina town – one of the few towns in Romania which history is entirely known as it is a relatively young settlement. It was founded on 24 June 1773, when Austrian colonist families(din Styria, Austria) settled here. They were specialized in producing charcoal, used in the iron and steel plant in Oravita. We start our first day of the adventure crossing the astonishing and wild Garliste Gorges (Cheile Garlistei)! The trek is a medium one, with some narrow passages. Time: about 5 – 7 hours. Transfer back to the guesthouse (about 40 minutes). Lunch pack and dinner.

Day 3

Breakfast. Depening where we are staying we have a short transfer or we start our second day of the adventure directly from the guesthouse. Today we trek crossing the mysterious and mystic Buhui Gorges (Cheile Buhui), than to Iabalcea plateau, one of the most important and spectacular trails from Anina mountains, which are a part of the Semenic-Cheile Carasului National Park. We may visit Comarnic Cave one of the most voluminous caves of Banat and Romania (about 2 hours). The galleries and halls analysed until now totals a length of 5229 m. The cave presents a massive character, consists of monumental halls and large stalagmite formations. We end up the tour in the cosy village of Iabalcea. The trek is a medium one. Time: about 7 – 8 hours. Transfer back to our headquarter (about 40 minutes). Lunch pack and dinner.

Day 4

Breakfast. Transfer to the starting point of our last day of adventure (about 50 minutes). Today we trek crossing the amaizing and impressive Caras Gorges (Cheile Carasului). We have time for a bath in the river! The trek is a medium one, with some narrow passages. Time: about 5 – 6 hours. Transfer back to the guesthouse (about 40 minutes). Lunch pack and farewell dinner.

Day 5

A happy breakfast after this adventure! We drive back to Brasov about 7 hours. On our way we visit The ‘Steam Locomotives’ Museum’ in Resita, the largest technical museum in open air in Europe.
