Itineraries

Day 1

Gherla-Nicula Monastery-Primordial nature Sic

9:00-10:00(43 km) Departure from Cluj-Napoca, at 10 arrival at Gherla 10:00-12:00 Visit Gherla 2 hours. Gherla was build in the early 18th century by Armenians and is the seat of the Ordinariate for Catholics of Armenian Rite in Romania as well as theat of a Greek-Catholic diocese. In the center of the city lie the Saint Gregory the Illuminator and the Holy Trinity Armenian Cathedral. Nowadays, Roman-Catholics, Greek-Catholics, Orthodox and other denominations live together in Gherla and continue to manifest their faith according to their own rituals. Is a colorful and rich spiritual “landscape” which leaves a strong impression of a very vivid Christian community. We will visit a great and imposing cathedral and a simple wooden church that seem to be two extremes but united in the same spirit. 12:00-13:00 Departure to Nicula Monastery, arrival in 10 minutes, then visit until 13 pm. Nicula Monestery, one of the most important pilgrimage center in the north of Transylvania housed over time the famous icon of Mother of God with the Child painted in 1681 by the artisan Luca of Iclod. There are many who over time have experienced miracles by coming to worship this icon. 13:30-15:00 Lunch at Sic 15:00-17:30 Visit Sic The last stop of the day is Sic, an ancient SIC Hungarian village. In this tiny authentic villages hidden among the endless hills lays a big part of the Transylvanian charm…A primordial nature, flocks of sheeps, clean and orderly houses and households, churches and traditions, interesting customs and dilligent people, very rich and good food…this is Sic, this is our Transylvania. One day is too short to know such a diverse and beautiful world but it can be a great beginning of a new spiritual friendship and communion. 17:30-18:30 (39 km) Departure from Sic, arrival in Cluj at 18:30.
